Secretary Benson, area officials launch newest Secretary of State mobile office serving Macomb County

"Celebration at Warren senior center highlights Michigan Department of State's innovative outreach to aging residents"

*WARREN, Mich.? *Today, Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson launched Michigan?s fifth mobile Secretary of State office at a ribbon-cutting ceremony in Warren. Benson was joined by State Rep. Donavan McKinney and other local officials celebrating the new mobile office, which will serve communities in Macomb County.

?

Today?s ceremony at Fitzgerald Senior Recreation Center showcased the services the mobile offices provide to older Michiganders so they can continue to drive safely, exercise their voting rights, and remain active members of their communities.?

?

?I?m proud to launch our newest mobile office here in Macomb County today ? the second to serve metro Detroit,? *said Secretary Benson*. ?Mobile offices come directly to senior living facilities and places like the Fitzgerald Senior Recreation Center to ensure Michigan seniors get the services they need to stay active in their communities and in our democratic process. I will continue to make state government more accessible to everyone, meeting people where they are, and bringing vital services directly to them.?

?

?Accessible services are so important to the people in the communities I represent, especially our seniors, said *State Rep. Donavan McKinney (D-Detroit)*, I?m excited that Secretary Benson is bringing this amazing new resource to Macomb County to help provide better, equal, and convenient access for everyone no matter where you live.?

?

Launched in 2021, the Secretary of State fleet includes five mobile offices in regions around the state. The Macomb County mobile office joins others serving residents in Southeast Michigan, Mid-Michigan, the Great Lakes Bay area, and West Michigan. Two additional mobile offices will launch soon serving Northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula.

?

According to May 2023 Michigan Department of State data, nearly 25% of Michigan?s 7.34 million licensed drivers are aged 65 or older. Approximately 383,000 of those drivers are aged 80 or older. Mobile office visits to senior living communities around Michigan help make sure aging drivers are equipped with what they need to drive safely for as long as they are able.?

?

In addition to senior centers, Secretary of State mobile offices visit foster care facilities, rural areas, and other communities with limited mobility or poor internet access. Mobile office customers can apply for and renew their driver?s license or state ID, update their address, register to vote, transfer vehicle titles, and conduct many other transactions available in Secretary of State offices or online.
