When I jumped on the campaign trail, I learned very quickly that running for office is a full-time job, one that is almost exclusively available to the wealthiest among us.
I had to cancel my health care to continue my campaign. I'm pushing to break down the boundaries that prevent working-class Americans from running for office by petitioning the Federal Elections Committee -- but the government has to take action.
Health care is a human right. My story is just one of many. Nobody should have to choose between cancer treatments or avoiding bankruptcy, between life-saving insulin or that month's rent, or between taking your child to the pediatrician or putting food on the table.
