In advance of President Biden descending into Lauren Boebert's
congressional district today to talk about the popular economic issues she
voted against, NPR featured the PCCC declaring this a "smart fight" with
Republican extremists.
"In order for the public to understand the difference between Democrats
and Republicans on things like jobs or lower price prescription drugs, we
need to see a fight," PCCC co-founder Adam Green said to NPR's Deepa
Shivaram. "This particular trip might be outsized in its influence and is
a good downpayment on a larger strategy of picking smart fights with
Republicans."
In recent meetings with White House officials and other Democratic
leaders, we and our friends at Data For Progress showed polling that
revealed a few key lessons.
One big one was that Democrats are struggling (a lot) to break through on
economic issues. But we are most successful when we engage Republicans on
high-profile (high-drama) fights! We gotta keep it interesting to attract
the media.
Lauren Boebert won her 2022 election by 546 votes. Nobody was paying
attention to that race -- with a presidential visit, they are now!

through a crowded news environment on Tara Palmeri’s Somebody’s Gotta

can we draw Republicans into a fight?"

Issues where Republicans engaged Democrats in high-profile clash (like
cancel student debt and Ukraine) broke through the most:
