Americans pay more for their medications than any other country.
John,
A recent report found that Pfizer is marketing Paxlovid, one of the few antiviral medications that works to treat COVID-19, for nearly $1400 for a single course. That’s more than 100 times what it costs to produce and more than double what it charged the U.S. government to distribute the medication free of charge during the pandemic.
Life-saving medication is a necessity, not a luxury. Those at the highest risk for COVID-related hospitalization, namely older and immunocompromised people, will soon be unable to get what they need to avoid a costly hospital stay.
Americans pay more for their medications than any other country. Over 9 million Americans tried to save money by skipping doses of their medications in 2021, while Big Pharma’s price gouging and lobbying efforts resulted in a staggering $38.7 billion in profits the following year.
No matter the condition, we have an obligation to ensure that all Americans can access the medications they need.
