After you all helped secure a sweeping victory for Virginia Democrats in this month’s legislative elections, our Blue General Assembly is wasting no time getting to work.

VA Dems recently introduced constitutional amendments to protect the fundamental right to an abortion, remove language prohibiting same-sex marriage, and to address the automatic restoration of voting rights.

These proposals would be life-changing for thousands of Virginians. But I want to take this further than the Commonwealth. I want to get the same things done in the Senate – but we need to expand our Democratic Senate majority to make this dream a reality. If Republicans take back the Senate in 2024, they’ll do exactly what Virginia’s GOP-controlled House of Delegates did for years: Make sure every proposal from Democrats to move Virginia forward is dead on arrival.

In Washington, we should take a page from Virginia’s playbook and double down on our efforts to safeguard reproductive health care, support LGBTQ+ rights, and ensure that every American has access to the ballot box and can make their voice heard.
