Folks, you’ve probably heard about my health care story from when I was growing up by now.
After spending three months in the hospital with an illness as a child, my grandparents, who raised me, couldn’t find an insurance policy to protect me — at any price, from any insurer — all because I had a “pre-existing condition.”
I got into public service because I watched my grandparents make enormous sacrifices to pay for my health care out of pocket. I’ll never forget what it was like to watch them stay up late at night, worrying that if I fell ill again, they wouldn’t be able to afford the care to help me get better.
Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, 133 million Americans like me can no longer be denied coverage for having a pre-existing condition. I was proud to vote to pass that legislation, and have fought tooth and nail against Republican efforts to repeal it.
This fight is personal to me, so when I see Republicans like Donald Trump renew their attacks against the ACA, I know we can’t take these threats lightly.
The former president took aim at the Affordable Care Act over the weekend, promising to “never give up” the fight to repeal it and take away affordable health care from millions of Americans.
Republicans have tried — and failed — before to roll back health care reform, and I intend to fight them every step of the way to defend health care access for Americans with pre-existing conditions.
But I’m counting on you to join me in this fight. If Mitch McConnell flips one more Senate seat, Republicans will retake the majority and pave the way to advance their out-of-touch, right-wing agenda which includes repealing the ACA.
So I’m personally asking: Will you pitch in a donation to help me defend this toss-up Senate seat and our Democratic Senate majority? We are the last line of defense against the GOP’s plans to take away health care from millions of Americans.
