Last year at COP27, leaders took some key steps, but fell far short of the level of action that's needed. Focusing on adaptation without also slashing fossil fuel use puts us on a very expensive and dangerous hamster wheel, trying to keep pace with costly and deadly climate disasters that will only become worse unless we address the root cause.
We can't afford for leaders at COP28 to punt again on the most critical actions. We're calling on leaders to rapidly cut emissions across all sectors, boost efforts to build resilience to extreme weather events and protect and restore nature—all in a way that respects human rights and protects the most climate-vulnerable.
It's still possible to limit warming to 1.5ºC, but that window is closing fast, and we need bold and immediate action if we hope to avert the worst of a climate catastrophe. Make sure our world leaders hear from you: Tell them it's in our power to meet this challenge—but only if we start now. |
