John: As the coronavirus continues to spread rapidly through the metro Washington area, the Metro Washington Council put next Monday's meeting on hold and rescheduled the Evening with Labor until October 16.

"The health and safety of every one of our brothers and sisters must be our paramount concern," said MWC Acting President Andrew Washington. "At the same time, we must make every effort to maintain the labor movement's democratic processes as we confront these serious challenges together."

DC Mayor Muriel Bowser on Wednesday declared a state of emergency and a public health emergency related to the coronavirus outbreak in the District of Columbia and other area authorities are acting as well. Earlier in the day, [link removed] DC Health recommended that non-essential mass gatherings, including conferences and conventions, be postponed or cancelled.

The Metro Council plans to continue providing coverage of the effect of the outbreak and other labor news through the Union City newsletter, social media platforms and Union City Radio on WPFW 89.3FM.
