John,

I grew up here in Sioux City, graduated high school, played ball for Morningside, and then followed my career out of Iowa. That career took me across the country and the world, but something was missing and I couldn't figure out what it was.

You may know the rest of that story – I came home to visit my grandmother before she passed away and that's when I knew home is where I needed to be. I love where I come from and it is an honor to represent Sioux City in the Iowa State House. That is why I am glad to share this news with you:

Starting right now, I am running for reelection.

Here are the facts – regardless of what Iowans want or need, Iowa's Republicans at the Capitol only fight for a National Republican agenda, not for hard-working families in Iowa. The Republicans in the Iowa State House are importing bills from a national Republican agenda that is reckless and cruel; Passing controversial bills to ban abortion, put children at risk of exploitation, defund our public schools, SNAP benefits, and Medicare, and undermine the values our state was built on.

I cannot sit by and watch their extremism take hold. So, as one of only two Democrats representing Western Iowa, I am standing up to fight for Iowans. We deserve better than what the extremists in charge have to offer, but I need your help to win this fight.

Today marks the start of our campaign — but we have a long road ahead of us. In 2022, Kim Reynolds won our district by ten points. That means we can't take this race for granted, because we have too much at stake to let Republicans waltz into Sioux City and push their national agenda. So, I am building a movement to fight for a better Iowa that works for all Iowans.
