In my family of five, three of us are on the autism spectrum: Two of my children and myself. My oldest son Charlie was diagnosed with level 3 severe autism almost 10 years ago, and at that time, I did not know that I was autistic—but I knew enough to turn to Autism Speaks for answers, crucial early intervention tools and resources and a sense of belonging that I couldn’t find anywhere else.

As chaotic as my day-to-day life can be, as many challenges as there may be ahead, I wouldn’t change one thing about my family. But what I know can—and must—change is how we, as a society, serve the autism community and autistic individuals at every stage of life, no matter what their autism looks like.
