We had another successful week of Bilborough Arts in June. Supported by councillor ward funds, the festival was able to showcase an art gallery, the Robin Hood Youth Orchestra, LIT youth theatre, as well as art installations from local schoolchildren and much more. Even the Sheriff popped by!
July saw Councillors Harris, Gakanje-Ajala and Kalsi join cleansing teams in the Bilborough Day of Action. We were able to litter pick around Bracebridge Drive, as well as clearing a number of fly tips around the ward. In the afternoon we held a small surgery with Housing, Social Prescribing and Welfare Rights
In September Councillor Harris and Councillor Kalsi had the pleasure of attending the award ceremony for the Summer Reading challenge. A fabulous 100 children participated in the challenge and the ceremony was attended by 29 children and their grown-ups.
Reading is such an important skill and it was a pleasure to meet so many avid readers and their families.
In November Councillor Kalsi and Councillor Gakanje-Ajala joined the Green Guardians in planting 60 trees and a number of spring flowering bulbs into the mound on Bilborough Park, next to Harvey Hadden. In a few years’ time this will become a beautiful woodland space to be enjoyed by the community.

Over 135 resurfacing schemes have been completed so far across the city.
In 2021, the council successfully bid as part of a competitive process for money from the Government’s Levelling Up fund to improve streets and local town centres, and make walking and cycling easier and safer.
Nottingham City Council has approved ÂŁ11million of improvements to make our neighbourhoods greener, safer, better places to get around. Work is due to be completed in March 2024. Streets that have been improved in Bilborough so far include:
-
Roads - Burnside Green, Denholme Road and Graylands Road
-
Paths - Burnwood Drive, Greystoke Drive and Seagrave Road
We are also setting money aside for tree work and bin replacements. You can find out more by visiting the streets for people website.
Bilborough’s Christmas Event is being held on 14 December at St John’s Church and the surrounding area. We will have a children’s entertainer, arts and craft activities, hot and cold refreshments, and of course, a visit from Father Christmas. We look forward to seeing you there!
Drop-in surgeries with your local Councillors take place regularly, so why not come along to ask a question or share an idea on how to make Bilborough a better place to live.Â

Gambling can affect physical and mental health, damage relationships and leave people feeling lonely and isolated. It can also cause problems with employment, education, housing and lead to serious debt. Â
Gambling-related harm is under-recognised and often hidden. Many people being harmed by gambling don’t see themselves as a person with a problem and don’t recognise the issues it’s causing. When people do recognise they may have a problem, it can be hard to talk about it, or to reach out for help because of guilt, shame or worry. Â
If you notice that you, or someone you know is feeling stressed, anxious, thinking about gambling a lot of the time, or hiding their gambling from others, it could be a sign of gambling harm.

You can make difference for children in Nottingham by becoming a foster carer. The number of children in care in Nottingham is at a record high and we need more carers to provide children with a safe, secure and loving home. A home where they can thrive, grow and reach their potential.
Fostering is looking after a child when they can’t live with their own family. This can be for a couple of days, a few months, or many years. The children come from a range of different cultural, ethnic and religious backgrounds.
As a foster carer with Nottingham City Council you will get a weekly allowance. The allowance varies according to the child’s age and number of children you foster.
