Friends,

I want a President who believes in science. I want a President who knows when it’s time to listen to the experts, and who shows faith in the career public servants who keep our country safe. More than anything, I want a President who is up to the task of running the federal government, whether in good times or moments of crisis.

Unfortunately, instead of leadership and stability, the President’s management of the federal government in recent weeks has produced chaos and confusion. The administration’s disjointed response to the coronavirus — from contradicting public health officials to the fumbling of coronavirus test kits — are particularly alarming. So, too, is the President’s culture of dismissing anyone he perceives as disagreeing with him and appointing unqualified leaders in their place. He's putting personal loyalty over our security, plain and simple. This is especially concerning as we head into an election year where our adversaries will be trying everything they can to shake Americans’ faith in our democratic system.

I know that America is resilient, and we will get through this, even under the dangerously inadequate leadership we’ve seen from this President. But the next four years are a different matter. The President’s erratic responses to critical national security and public health challenges remind us of what’s at stake in November. The truth is, we must defeat Donald Trump and flip the Senate because the future of our country depends on it.

As we look toward November, it's critical that Democrats here in Virginia keep putting in the hard work to counteract the money and volunteers that the Trump campaign is already pouring into the Commonwealth. Record turnout for the primary proved that Democrats are ready and willing to act — we've got to keep that momentum going.

We have the chance to elect a President who will rise to the challenges we face and lead our country based on what’s best for the American people, not what’s best for Donald Trump. And if we flip the Senate in November, we will have the opportunity to make real change that will truly turn our country around.

I hope you will join me in demanding better from our government in these trying times and commit to being a part of this campaign. I’m so grateful for your ongoing support and look forward to working alongside you to make change happen this November.

Sincerely,
Mark Warner
