El Paso, TX – President Trump is scheduled to visit El Paso this afternoon after
the mass shooting over the weekend that left 22 people dead and many others
injured. His visit comes as politicians and civil rights organizations, including
the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), have blamed the president
for deliberately feeding into the anti-immigrant frenzy and white supremacist
violence. Domingo Garcia, LULAC National President, issued the following
statement in response to Trump’s visit to El Paso:
“President Trump’s belated trip to El Paso is an afterthought and an affront to
the survivors, the victims and their families, and to all El Pasoans, whose lives
have been changed forever. In fact, it’s an affront to the entire Latino
community which he demagogues, inspiring violence and hatred against us. His
words were used as inspiration by the murderer. If he wants to show true
leadership, he can start by apologizing to the victims for his abusive bigoted
language.”
On Saturday, August 10th, LULAC will be leading the “March for a United America”
in El Paso at 8:30am MT, to stand together with civil rights and religious
leaders, as well as the El Paso community, to rally for unity and call for
stricter gun control. Additional details can be found here [ [link removed] ] .

Sincerely,
Domingo Garcia
LULAC National President
