 John, In 2024, voters in our community will elect a new representative for the first time in two decades, which gives us a rare chance to set the tone for the type of leadership we need to see in Congress. And amid all the shutdown threats and Speaker commotion, voters ask me the same thing: why do I even want to be in Congress?!? My answer: because the fight is too important. Because our country is worth fighting for.
As a CNN correspondent pointed out, “House and Senate Republicans have filed bills to impose on blue states all the red state rights rollbacks on voting, abortion, LGBTQ rights, book bans, don’t say gay laws. With unified control of DC, [Speaker Mike] Johnson’s views would inevitably translate into policy.” As your Congresswoman, I will use every lever to ensure this will never happen under my watch. It’s my promise that every vote I make will be grounded in the needs of this community -- whether it’s fighting for dignified wages and a public health option, or defending ballot box access, reproductive freedoms and the rights of our LGBTQ friends and family from far-right attacks.
