Friend,
Javier is like so many other boys who love playing basketball, listening to music, and watching soccer videos. Unlike other boys, Javier also has medical needs that made him uniquely vulnerable.
At the age of 17, Javier traveled to the United States, seeking better opportunities for himself and to reunite with family members who had made the journey before him. At the border, he was detained and placed in government custody.
Months later, still unable to reunite with his family in the U.S., Javier wished to go back home.
The Young Center’s Safe Repatriation Team partnered with an international organization who visited Javier's parents in home country and carried out an assessment to determine if they could meet his health needs. The Safe Repatriation Team found that his family would be able to safely meet his mental health needs and were willing to continue to care for him should he return.
Javier went back to his community and a welcoming and loving home. He is now doing well. His parents supported his needs and have even observed improvements in his emotional responses. In addition, through our safe repatriation work, the family connected with a doctor in their community who was able to provide Javier with care for both his medical and mental health needs.
Every child deserves a fair shot at growing up healthy and happy, no matter where they call home. Donate today to help us advocate for the most vulnerable immigrant children in federal custody.
An anonymous donor is matching every dollar you contribute to the Young Center, up to $15,000.00. Your gift will go twice as far in supporting our efforts to support unaccompanied and separated immigrant children and their families.
