A note from from Mayor Brian Turnbull...

It was great to see many of you at the community Thanksgiving gathering hosted by the Methodist Church in the Ville. Many enjoyed some turkey and fixings, comradery and football in Fellowship Hall (777 8 Mile). I had the privilege of providing transportation for some local guests from various places. On this day, my family and I shared a meal with the 125 Guests & Volunteers. I thank you all for coming together for the community, including businesses such as Great Harvest Bread, Genitti’s and Tuscan, among others.

This week, I thought I would slow down and thank those who have been there for others in our greater Northville area over time … we are Grateful.

Also, over the weekend, we were recognized in various ways for welcoming folks to Northville – Channel 7 highlighted the Saturday CARnival at Mill Race Village and WorldAtlas named Northville as one of the “7 Most Welcoming Towns in Michigan” (Link ([link removed]) ).

Before looking to those groups we are GRATEFUL for ... let's see what's going on in "The Ville."

* Free Holiday Concerts – Detroit Handbell Ensemble, Sat., 12/2 at 7pm, Advent Songfest, Sun., 12/10 6:30pm – First United Methodist Church Northville, at 777 W 8 Mile.

* Late Night Shopping Event “Jingle Mingle” – Thursday 11/30 6-9pm with live music at Tuscan Café, in store raffles, festive holiday atmosphere, and more.

* Holiday to Remember – Located in downtown Northville 12/9, 12/16, 12/23 from 4-7pm featuring free Horse & Wagon Rides, Carolers, Santa in Town Square, Bagpiper, Vendors, and more. See Link for info. Link ([link removed])

* Santa in Town Square – Visits 12/3 1-4pm, 12/10 4-6pm, 12/17 1-4pm

GRATEFUL FOR NORTHVILLIANS for Sharing Time & Talents...
* 1800’s to early 1900’s – Ecumenical services were held Seasonally with many of the local churches gathering together, helping to grow a spirit of cooperation and support for ALL in the community.

* 1800’s till Today – Large Community gatherings (quarterly) for all who were in need in the Northville area took place, including music, dancing, food, fellowship, and festivities.

* 1800’s till Today – Many organizations such as the Masons, Eagles, VFW, American Legion, Rotary, Woman’s Club, and others have continued the tradition of assisting those in need … especially around the holidays.

* 1922 – The Northville Record stated, “Radio came to Northville for all in the community to hear… Cliff Turnbull made an antenna that was placed in the steeple of the Methodist Church (Stamp Peddler). With standing room only available, all listened to this innovative new invention called radio. It was the first known radio broadcast to make its way into Northville.”

* Civic Concern – This assistance organization provides food and much more in the community (since 1983). This group of concerned citizens shares their time and talents to provide food for those in need (287 families serviced during COVID).

* Amerman Playground Fund Group – Where there is a need, there are always those interested in assisting. This group is dedicated to improving our school’s playgrounds for our children and the school district. The Amerman Playground Fund group is made up of parents and others who use the playgrounds during baseball, pom practice, or winter sledding. This team is dedicated to raising funds for special playground initiatives. Link ([link removed])

* 100 Women Who Care – “Small City / Big Heart”. This group of nearly 200 passionate women support Northville and surrounding communities by combining their resources to benefit local charities. They are from all walks of life and different financial backgrounds but as a group, they make a substantial impact. They have raised close to half a million for local charities recently.

* Veterans Memorial – We are very grateful to have volunteers that maintain and place Flags and ribbons quarterly at our Rural Hill Veterans section and support our Chamber's Veteran Banner program each May and November.

* Parade / Festival Volunteers – We are known as the parade and festival city of Michigan. Without the volunteers from law enforcement (Wayne & Oakland County Sheriffs, and local first responders), along with assistance from various local organizations and the School District, these events couldn’t have occurred. These include parades (Memorial Day, 4^th of July, Victorian, Lighted Holiday) and festivals such as Buy Michigan, Victorian, Greens Mart and other events, including ones sponsored by the Mill Race Historical Village.

* Beautification Committee – The City is grateful for your outstanding contributions. Your time and talents shared on beautification of Northville gateways into the community, downtown floral arrangements and accents in our various parks are a highlight of the city.

We as a community are so Grateful for the various organizations that share their time and talents for the betterment of all in our area. I thank our spiritual organizations, clubs, and support groups, along with each of you who give back by engaging as committee members, volunteers, or leaders in our community. We are able to engage on transformational initiatives (Ford Field, Riverwalk, Farmers’ Market, etc.) because of citizen involvement. Over 6% of all Northvillians are involved in committees and task forces doing good for all in our community. I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Let’s all continue to share our time & talents with those in need through the organization of your choice during this upcoming holiday season. The City is Grateful for you!
