The Southern Resident orca population is at one of its lowest points in decades. These magnificent creatures are on the BRINK OF EXTINCTION.

First: New orca mother Tahlequah mourned her baby when it died just thirty minutes after being born. She carried her calf's body over 1,000 miles in her grief before letting go.

Then: Playful Cappuccino, Marina the matriarch, and young Ripple died from starvation. Their families are still grieving their deaths.

Now: Two new orcas were just born. But they are already in extreme danger of starving to death.

I wish I could be nothing but excited about these new orca births. But I'm worried -- and I thought you might be too. That’s because the mortality rate for newborn orcas is as high as 50%! You see, the remaining 75 Southern Resident orcas are facing a chronic lack of food. They’re in danger of starving to death. This is so serious that these gentle giants have been deemed “vulnerable” due to their astonishingly poor physical condition.

But it gets worse, Friend. A new shipping terminal and oil pipeline expansion threaten the remaining whales, their entire ecosystems, and the communities who live nearby. Just one oil spill could completely wipe out the last remaining orcas -- including these new babies.

We need your help if these majestic orcas and their beautiful ocean habitats are going to stand a chance against Big Polluters. At Friends of the Earth, we are working to get more oil spill protections in place in the Pacific Northwest along with efforts to reduce shipping noise, and oppose these pipeline and shipping terminal projects. But we can't win this fight without your help.

Every dollar you give before midnight tonight will be MATCHED to meet our $200,000 Giving Tuesday goal and continue our critical work. Rush a membership donation now and have it go TWICE AS FAR to protect Southern Resident orcas, other endangered animals, and our planet!
