Democratic pro-choice women confront a number of obstacles when running for office, especially when faced with deep-pocketed anti-choice extremist opponents.
Ask any EMILYs List candidate, and she'll tell you: women have to battle gender bias on the campaign trail and fight hard to prove their "electability" — all while figuring out how to run a campaign smarter and leaner. I'll put it this way, John: running for office as a Democratic pro-choice woman isn’t for the faint of heart.
As you saw with our recent victories in Virginia, Pennsylvania, and New York, it's clear: EMILYs List candidates have what it takes to overcome these barriers and win. But while the number of women running for office has increased over the years, women still account for just a fraction of our elected leaders.
