PFAW Member, Republicans across the country have continued, unrelenting, in their efforts to reduce voter turnout in elections. Their attempt to suppress the vote has come in all forms: voter registration purges, gerrymandering, unsubstantiated claims of rampant voter fraud, and more. We continue to see their efforts play out in states across the country – in places like Florida, where just last November, voters overwhelmingly approved a measure that would allow previously incarcerated individuals the right to vote, but now Republicans in the state legislature are throwing up every hurdle imagineable, including requiring that people pay fines in order to be able to register – something that many experts are likening to a modern-day poll tax. And we saw the success of Republican attempts to suppress the vote last November, perhaps most notably in Georgia, where then Secretary of State (and now governor) Brian Kemp oversaw the purging of voter rolls – resulting in the loss of hundreds of thousands of otherwise eligible voters ahead of the election. The rationale? They hadn't voted in a recent election. Republicans know that high voter turnout jeopardizes their chances at winning – which is why they attempt to do all they can to suppress voters from showing up to the polls. But we're not going to let them. PFAW and other progressive organizations are fighting hard to stop Republican attempts to suppress voters, empower progressive organizers and candidates across the country, by investing heavily in our proven electoral programs. With your continued support and feedback, we can continue this crucial work to unseat Trump Republicans and strengthen the American Way.
