Dear John –

Earlier this year, our team at the Campaign for Southern Equality (CSE) saw a serious threat on the horizon: A wave of bans on medically necessary health care for transgender youth. And immediately, we prioritized developing strategies that would center the needs of those most impacted. That's why in the first month of the year, we created the Southern Trans Youth Emergency Project (STYEP), an initiative that is now serving trans youth and their families across 13 states.

STYEP is a resource center for the families of transgender youth impacted by bans on gender-affirming care, which right now are impacting 90% of trans youth in the South and 35% of trans youth nationwide. We provide one-on-one patient navigation support, answering parents’ unique questions about how they can continue to access care for their child, and we offer direct emergency grants of $500 to offset the financial burden of the bans. We have developed a network of trusted clinics and medical providers in access states and have launched patient care funds at several to further reduce economic stress for families.

We are deeply honored to support families through this time of crisis, and since launching we have supported 600+ families and individuals, issuing a total of $320,000 in direct grants and an additional $60,000 in grants to frontline service providers.

This is crisis response work, focused on providing rapid, tangible, and sustained support to ensure that trans youth in the South can access the care they need and deserve. And the need for it will continue throughout 2024, which is why we are preparing to expand STYEP to serve as many families as we can. We need your continued support – and I’m asking you to join us with a Giving Tuesday gift to make sure we start the new year with a full tank of gas.

Thanks to two incredible donors, the first $50,000 that we raise through our end-of-year campaign will be matched dollar for dollar.
Please join us this Giving Tuesday by making an impact on the families of trans youth all across the South. ([link removed])
