John,
Last week, a four-day temporary cessation of hostilities was announced between Israel and Hamas, along with a limited exchange of hostages.
Since then, Israelis and Palestinians have been returned to their loved ones, and the relentless bombing on Gaza that has killed an estimated 15,000 Palestinians has finally paused for the moment.
This truce proves that a diplomatic solution is not only possible, but the only way to protect the lives of Israelis and Palestinians alike. This first step comes after more than a month of protests and public pressure demanding the U.S. government call for a ceasefire. While this incomplete agreement is only temporary, it makes it clear that there is no military solution to this conflict — and we must continue calling for a permanent ceasefire, which does not include $14 billion more in bombs and weapons for the Israeli military to continue its destruction.
The Squad led on this issue when others were too afraid to, being the first members of Congress to introduce and support a resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire and release of all hostages.
Now, those same progressive champions are continuing to push for a permanent ceasefire and diplomatic solutions to achieve peace, despite facing unprecedented attacks from Republican-funded Super PACs like AIPAC.
As the Squad keeps up their fight for human rights for all, Justice Democrats is preparing to do everything in our power to re-elect them next year. Can you chip in $3 or anything you can afford today to help us reach our grassroots fundraising goal before Thursday’s deadline?
Together, we can and must continue to fuel our movement for peace and human rights, and that means defending our bloc of young, Black and brown, working-class progressives in Congress.
Thanks for everything you do to power us,
Alexandra Rojas
Executive Director
Do not worry if you cannot afford to make a contribution — we understand that this is a difficult time. There are other ways to make an impact in support of peace and equality in Israel and Palestine: please urge your member of Congress to support a ceasefire through Adalah Justice Project’s petition or by calling them using Jewish Voice for Peace’s dialer here. Your voice matters in this critical moment. |
