| The Alaska LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) Project would include an 807-mile pipeline bisecting Alaska from north to south. The $38.7 billion fossil fuel project would export 20 million metric tons of gas per year, while construction and operation of the project would release at least 299 million more metric tons of carbon pollution over its 30-year lifespan. |
| The export terminal is in south-central Alaska’s Cook Inlet, where Earthjustice is also challenging a lease sale that the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management held last December. It’s home to sea otters and critically endangered beluga whales, a productive fishery, thriving tourism, and Alaska Native communities. The project would route natural gas to a marine terminal in Cook Inlet for export to Asia — potentially increasing large vessel traffic by nearly 75%. The result would be catastrophic for wildlife, fisheries, and local communities. |
