Authoritarians have more tools than ever before.

Advances in artificial intelligence are increasing the scale, speed, and efficiency of digital repression. Authoritarian governments are engaging in transnational repression, reaching across borders into democratic countries to silence dissent among diaspora and exiles through assassinations, illegal deportations, abductions, digital threats, Interpol abuse, and family intimidation. Attacks on free expression are one of the biggest drivers of democratic decline over the last 17 years, as determined in our 50th edition of Freedom in the World this year, and they are only growing more common around the world.
 

Over the past year, Freedom House has assisted more than 15,000 human rights activists, organizations, journalists, and survivors of persecution in more than 90 countries. Your support allows them to continue their struggle for fundamental rights and against oppression.
