This Giving Tuesday, please consider supporting the Levy Economics Institute.

As you know, our mission as a nonprofit is to develop and promote alternatives to conventional approaches in economics and public policy.

We have developed a unique research agenda that includes: analyzing the sources of fragility and incipient crises in the US economy; reorienting our understanding of the causes of inflation and the flaws of predominant policy responses; developing policies to ensure full employment while tackling climate change; and revealing the depth and breadth of hidden poverty and gender inequality due to conventional disregard of the household economy. Recently we partnered with scholars in Sub-Saharan Africa to understand how economic processes and policies in the region impact the economic empowerment of women.

The Levy Institute’s Master’s programs provide both a grounding in mainstream approaches as well as an education in alternative, heterodox ways of seeing current economic problems—and our graduates have gone on to bring these unique perspectives with them to positions in think tanks, government agencies, and academia. Since 2021, we have been participating in an international effort that has seen our graduate program receive 10 student refugees from Afghanistan, most of whom are young women whose educational journeys would have ended under the Taliban. Two refugee students have already graduated from our program, and more are poised to join us.

Your support is crucial to being able to continue our programs and move forward with new initiatives. Please help us make a difference.
