We are not powerless in the face of this epidemic. We have big plans this year to finally pass legislation to require a permit to purchase firearms ensuring that background checks happen before someone purchases a firearm, rather than at the point of sale.

This life-saving policy has been proven to reduce firearm-related deaths, curb the trafficking of guns to criminals shortly after retail sale, and lower the rate of firearms being traced to criminals in other states.
