(New York, N.Y. / Berlin, Germany) – The Counter Extremism Project (CEP) invites you to a webinar on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, to present new, in-depth CEP studies concerning Houthi military procurement and terror finance.
Only a decade ago, the Houthis were a relatively unknown Shia militia from the Yemeni backwater of Saadah. Over time, they expanded their control over Yemen and developed into a more militarily sophisticated organization with a prominent role in the Iran-led axis of resistance. In recent months, the Houthis have demonstrated both their capabilities and intentions by joining in on Hamas’s attack on Israel; they have launched dozens of missiles and drones at Israel (nearly 2,000 km away) and commandeered a cargo ship, which they alleged was “Israeli,” as it traveled along the Horn of Africa.
The upcoming CEP webinar will examine two elements of the growing Houthi threat: defense procurement and terror finance. It will also consider more broadly how the Houthis’ “quantum leap” in a single decade are a cautionary tale with respect to Tehran’s broader regional strategy for developing the Iran Threat Network (ITN).
