Hi there,

Fun Fact: Did you know that running for office can cost a candidate thousands – or even millions – of their own personal dollars? Even candidates who don’t have access to personal wealth are often expected to take on a financial burden in their pursuit of public office. Here’s why:

Running for office is expensive. Even campaigns for local government seats can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to run. Candidates must compensate their staff, vendors, lawyers, compliance officers, etc… not to mention the cost of running commercials and ads to amplify the message of their campaign.

Many candidates write checks to their campaigns or committees from their personal bank accounts. Or, in some cases, they make a loan to get their campaign off the ground. Since fundraising can be very time-consuming, candidates without the ability to self-fund end up trailing behind their opponents when it comes to connecting with voters.

As we work to build a government that truly represents ALL Americans, we need candidates from underserved and underrepresented backgrounds to run for office. This Giving Tuesday, we are asking you to join us in supporting qualified pro-choice women running in 2024 who depend on our support by rushing $20.24 or more today. → [link removed]

Running for office is a full-time job. Our candidates often have to take time off, pause, quit, or resign from their jobs entirely in order to have the time needed to raise money and awareness for their campaign.

When candidates do this, they are giving up their salary, and they (and their family) have to make other arrangements for survival. This creates an unfair advantage for wealthy candidates – and can sometimes serve as an insurmountable barrier to entry, causing candidates without financial means to drop out of their race or decide not to run for office at all.

This is why Her Bold Move matters. We are working to elect the type of candidates who need our help the most. The ones who simply cannot do it alone. We depend on your generous support to ensure these phenomenal women candidates don’t fall through the cracks.

This Giving Tuesday, we’re asking you to add Her Bold Move to your list as you consider which important causes deserve your financial contribution. We pay special attention to deserving, accomplished, qualified women candidates who may not have access to personal wealth. You can help us by donating $20.24 or more today. →
