I’m guessing the people who came up with Giving Tuesday never thought we’d need to ask people to chip in to defend our democracy.

Yet, here we are.

If you’re reading this, you know how precarious our situation is. The 2024 election is less than a year away, and the frontrunner for the Republican nomination is facing dozens of felony criminal charges for trying to overthrow a free and fair election. He’s pledging to kick out government employees who aren’t loyal to him and is loudly referring to his political opponents as “vermin” (a truly terrifying parallel to pre-WWII fascists).

The worst part? Right now, the polls have him winning the election over President Biden.

We have a year to turn the tides — to identify and reach the exact-right voters with the exact-right message from the exact-right messenger. That work is underway, but we need to pick up the pace. And we rely entirely on people like you to fund it.

President Biden likes to say, “Don’t tell me what you value. Show me your budget, and I’ll tell you what you value.” Fighting fascism and authoritarianism in America in 2023 is not something any of us had on our bingo cards, but it’s something I know a lot of us care a whole hell of a lot about.
