Friends of LittleSis,

LittleSis has long relationships with movement organizations and coalitions working to challenge corporate power across New York State. From Buffalo to New York City, our research and strategic partnership supports important campaigns to hold New York to its historic commitments to decarbonize the state economy and to invest in public goods by making corporations and the ultra-rich pay a fairer share of taxes.

In the past year our research helped notch major wins for a just transition away from the fossil fuel economy in the state budgeting process. Our reports Fueling Obstruction and The Anti-Electrification Force documented how the fossil fuel industry – and especially private utility corporations – was spending millions of dollars to block, delay, and water down critical legislation to help meet New York’s mandate to eliminate carbon pollution.

These reports drove high-profile coverage in the news media and supported significant organizing victories when the state budget was passed in the Spring of 2023, including:

  • The All-Electric Buildings Act, which will prohibit fossil gas infrastructure in new residential buildings after 2029, and
  • The Build Public Renewables Act, which will empower the New York Power Authority to build and operate publicly-owned power plants.

Let’s build on this momentum in 2024!

Campaign wins this year build on other great victories in New York that our work has contributed to, like the tax increases on corporations and the ultra-wealthy, secured in 2021 by the Invest in Our New York coalition, that generated billions of dollars of public money to re-invest in housing, education and other public goods.

As that coalition has kept up the heat on New York’s power elite in 2023, we continued to support organizers with our March 2023 report, Crooked Kathy’s Dirty Donors, which exposed the billionaires, wealthy charter school interests, real estate moguls, and Wall Street financiers who have given millions of dollars to Governor Kathy Hochul to try to buy their way out of paying their fair share in taxes.

Help us bring crucial research and analysis to campaigns for justice!

These wins for a renewable energy economy and campaigns to fight back against billionaire power have been game-changing in New York, but they are also a model that can be followed in communities across the country. When strategic research teams up with people-powered campaigns, we can win.

To more peoples’ victories in 2024!

Onward,

Rob Galbraith
