President Donald Trump and his Republican enablers have threatened to cut vital programs like Social Security and Medicare since the beginning of his presidency. Using coded language like “entitlements” -- intentionally obscuring the extremely popular programs they’re targeting -- Republicans have floated these cuts time and time again, with no regard for the harm these cuts would be to millions of the most vulnerable people in our country.
And recently, they’ve renewed their targets on these programs. After slashing tax rates for corporations and the wealthy, Trump and his allies are proposing once again to cut Social Security and Medicare to pay for them.
Americans are tired of Republicans threatening budget cuts to the social safety net just so they can pay off the favors they gave the well-connected. Democrats know that programs like these aren’t bargaining chips -- they’re lifelines for millions of Americans.
Working families deserve elected officials who understand that we need to protect and strengthen Social Security and Medicare, not cut them. We need Democrats across the country and at all levels of government to make sure that we build an economy that works for everyone.
