Open to find out what's happening in the party :)

John,

As speculation about a spring general election increased after the chancellor’s “tax cutting” Autumn Statement, activists gathered in our four target constituencies for the biggest Action Weekend of the year. Scroll down to find out what's happening in the party 🔽

Co-leader Carla Denyer dismissed the tax bribes set in the Chancellor’s Autumn Statement and said the Green Party would rebalance the tax system to make it fairer and protect the most vulnerable. She told BBC News wealthy people should pay more with money redistributed to invest in NHS pay and dental care, and lift the two child benefit cap, a cruel sanction on larger families.

The Green Party has called on the president of Cop28 to resign after revelations that the United Arab Emirates is using the climate summit to strike oil and gas deals. Caroline Lucas MP has pointed out that the country also has a terrible record on human rights which the Prime Minister should draw attention to in Dubai, as climate breakdown and rights abuses are intrinsically linked.

Deputy leader Zack Polanski defended the decision to publish the names of Labour MPs who did not vote for a ceasefire in the House of Commons. He told LBC “the whole point about a democracy is you use your political voice to speak out for innocent people who are dying.” The party has welcomed the temporary truce and release of some hostages but is calling for a lasting ceasefire.

Pushing for new oil and gas licenses is an act of climate vandalism. Co-leader Adrian Ramsay’s said the Kings Speech, which set out the Government’s legislative priorities for the year ahead, offered no solutions to the cost of living or climate crises. Even the Government’s Energy Security Minister Claire Coutinho had to admit Government plans were no guarantee of keeping bills down.

The need for powerful Green voices in parliament has never been greater. Yet the undemocratic nature of party political funding makes it hard to compete with the bigger parties. In 2019, the Tories spent £16.5 million on its general election campaign, Labour spent £12 million and the Lib Dems £14.5 million. The Green Party spent less than half million.

It is not enough. The figures speak for themselves. We need to raise more donations - big and small - to get the next generation of Green MPs elected. That’s why we are stepping up our fundraising efforts to get our message out to voters across the country and strengthen campaigns in target constituencies.

Please help level the odds by making a one-off donation or regular contribution to our 4 for 24 campaign.

Have a wonderful week.

The Green Party 💚
