Through strategic partnerships with dedicated organizations and community leaders, we secured an impressive $37 million in public funding for wildlife crossing projects across the U.S. in 2023.
This included New Mexico, where we worked with Senator Mimi Stewart to pass Senate Bill 72, establishing the Wildlife Corridors Fund with an initial funding appropriation of $5 million. Earlier this summer, we organized a field trip to New Mexico’s Department of Transportation’s priority crossing project to emphasize the importance of continued funding for wildlife crossings – to influential policymakers and community members. The field trip was attended by key legislators, administration officials, and representatives from the Forest Service, Jicarilla Apache, and Navajo Nation.
