Dear Reader,

Like “love,” the word “community” is subject to constant mis- and over-use. The sad result is a crowding out of its proper uses.

FIRST THINGS strives to be a community of readers. I think in large part we are succeeding.

I say this not to pat our backs but to commend you. On this, our third annual Gratitude Tuesday, I write to thank you for engaging FIRST THINGS thoughtfully, standing by us courageously, and lending us your support in myriad ways.
