Dear Friends,
At IDP, we're passionate about our mission to end mass detention and deportation. But we can't do it alone. We need your help to make a real difference. For over 25 years, we've been advocating for fairness and justice for ALL immigrants. Our focus is on challenging double punishment and advocating for real-world solutions that provide support, safety, and stability for immigrant communities.
At this moment, IDP is an essential institution for safeguarding immigrant communities. Our common commitment to valuing the life of every single person is part of what set us apart. Take our work with Mr. E:
** Friends and family of Mr. E- describe him as compassionate, quiet, caring, and loving. He has lived for years with his wife and teenage son and has worked as a construction worker. Racially profiled by local police, he was funneled into the mass incarceration system where ICE started removal proceedings against him based on inaccurate documents from a local court. And even though the local court has acknowledged its documents were invalid, ICE continues to fight to deport Mr. E-.
------------------------------------------------------------
** We are fighting Mr. E-'s case in federal court, challenging ICE's efforts to illegally deport him, and challenging the federal laws and policies that are at the root of the government's case. These federal policies--ratcheted up by the Trump Administration--enhance the terror of mass incarceration for immigrant communities by excluding immigrants from protection from deportation based on eliminated, error-ridden convictions. Mr. E-'s case has forced the government to reconsider some of these policies, by soliciting public comments about new regulations that would include immigrants in the criminal system reform movement.
------------------------------------------------------------
Each day we fight with and for immigrants who are excluded from mainstream immigrant stories and advocacy. And we need your help to continue that work. Our advocacy, which centers the experiences of those who are typically excluded from reform efforts, has the power to unlock relief, security, and stability for everyone.

This year our work resulted in a federal court decision expanding the relief options for immigrants harmed by the drug war ([link removed]) . As a result, longtime residents can apply for citizenship despite old convictions and families separated as a result of deportation are on the path to reunification. We exposed the shocking culture of collusion ([link removed]) between New York City jail staff and ICE, in which New York City employees identified themselves as “#teamsendthemback” and launched a coalition to strengthen sanctuary laws in New York City. We created the space for immigrant advocates ([link removed]) to develop communications that reflect the full humanity of immigrant communities in the face of hostile
politics across the country. And we have worked with nearly 1,000 immigrants and their loved ones and lawyers to provide expert advice and creative, cutting edge legal strategies in individual cases.
We can't stop now. We need your help to strengthen and expand sanctuary while we challenge unjust immigration laws and policies in 2024. As a small nonprofit, we depend on your support. Every donation counts and makes a real difference. This year, we're raising $50,000 to support our fight for fairness and justice for ALL immigrants. And with your help, we can unlock a $125,000 matching donation from our partners at FJC - a family of philanthropic funds.
Will you join us in this fight? Your donation will help us make a real impact and move us closer to achieving our mission. Together, we can make a difference and create a fairer, more just society for all immigrants.
