Help plant life-changing trees this Giving Tuesday

**Bekelech's Story**

Bekelech is a mother of two from the Bensa district, Ethiopia, who works tirelessly on her land to provide for her children. As the climate crisis worsens, she worries about how she will feed her sons and fears for their future.

 

For farming families like Bekelech, unpredictable weather like heavier-than-usual rainfall leads to flooding, destroying precious crops in its path, and leaving children hungry. Bekelech shared:

 

***“The climate crisis is impacting our land. One year, there was such a big flood that it bought material down from the steep slopes behind our house onto our land and destroyed our coffee and crops. All we could do was replant everything and start again.”***

**The right tree, in the right place**

But with your support this Giving Tuesday, things don't have to be this way.

 

Families like Bekelech's will learn how tree planting can protect their land from flooding and boost their crop yields.


Planting different indigenous trees like Cordia Africana as well as coffee on slopes helps to anchor topsoil, preventing soil erosion caused by rainfall and reducing the risk of flooding.

 

Families will also learn about composting, which when applied to the soil, will help to regenerate the land and support the growth of trees and vegetables.
