The ESA is one of the most popular and effective conservation laws ever enacted.
Over 95% of species listed under the ESA are still with us today, including the
American alligator, peregrine falcon, and even our national symbol, the bald
eagle.

But despite its successes, the ESA is fighting chronic underfunding as
anti-wildlife politicians fight tooth and nail to weaken it and strip
still-threatened species of their protections. The consequences are devastating.

Just last month, 21 species were declared extinct. When wolves in the Northern Rockies lost their protections several years ago,
anti-wolf and anti-ESA politicians began hijacking the authority of fish and
wildlife agencies and commissions, resulting in the ongoing wholesale killing of
wolves in the region.
