Hey John,

With growing concerns over coronavirus, Democrats in the U.S. House and Senate recently introduced legislation to guarantee all workers paid sick leave. It’s about time.

For too long, millions of workers in this country have gone without paid sick leave, forcing them to choose between getting a paycheck or taking care of their health, even in cases where their illness could potentially impact others. Think about low-income workers in restaurants and other service jobs, who simply can’t afford to miss a shift in order to stay home with their sick children, take care of another family member, or rest themselves.

This lack of paid leave means those who work in certain industries will likely be more susceptible to suffering from and spreading illness, which is both an economic justice and public health issue.

Universal paid sick leave is long overdue in this country, and it could finally become a reality now as a result of this growing global pandemic. If passed, this bill would require all U.S. employers to let workers accrue 7 days of paid sick leave and immediately provide 14 additional days during a public health emergency.

If you agree that it’s time the U.S. government ensure employees provide guaranteed paid sick leave to workers, add your name to our petition now urging the House and Senate to pass this legislation ASAP >> [[link removed]]

People shouldn’t be put at further risk of a dangerous illness because of their employer’s greed. Let’s put pressure on Congress to pass this bill to protect workers now!

And remember: WASH YOUR HANDS!
