John,
My name is Renata, and I’m the Design Associate here at Immigrants Rising.
Let’s face it: the media representation of undocumented folks leaves a lot to be desired. It usually follows the same tired formula: where we were born, when we immigrated, and how we overcame the obstacles in our path to become the worthy immigrants we are today. But we deserve so much more than that. As a formerly undocumented immigrant and professional designer, I am committed to using my lived experience and skills to portray the undocumented community in complex, human ways.

That’s why I’m especially proud to introduce The Future is Undocumented. In this collection of stories, currently and formerly undocumented people from a wide range of backgrounds with an even wider range of talents, tastes, and views reflect candidly on the forces that shaped them and share their boldest visions, wildest dreams, and most persistent doubts about what the future might hold.
In collaboration with our Communications Team and illustrator Younie Park, I’ve had the pleasure of creating the vibrant, provocative, and playful imagery that brings the stories from this project to life.
This Giving Tuesday, when you donate $110 or more to our holiday giving campaign, you can receive a special print version of The Future is Undocumented magazine as a thank you. Just click the “Order this product” button on our giving page to donate, and don’t forget your mailing address.
I hope you’ll enjoy these stories as much as I do. Here’s to smashing stereotypes together!
In community,
Renata
