The Daily Caller — a right-wing conspiracy theory machine masquerading as a news outlet — just published a “report” attacking COURIER and our mission to provide trustworthy online reporting to communities in news deserts across the country.
If our reporting is making the folks at The Daily Caller anxious, it’s clear we’re doing something right. Let’s take a step back to remember exactly what kind of website it is in the first place:
- It was founded by Tucker Carlson, the man so extreme he was fired by Fox News.
- In 2016, it amplified extremist election conspiracy theories from Infowars and other far-right websites.
- In addition to the shady connections already mentioned, it has a history of disturbing ties to white nationalists.
The Daily Caller is functionally a propaganda outlet that employs far-right bloggers who pretend to be journalists. They publish hit pieces that are light on facts and heavy on hate and conspiracy theories — and this latest “report” is no different.
But the real reason they published their recent hit piece is that they’re terrified of us. They’re finally being confronted by journalists who aren’t afraid to call out their lies in real-time in the places where misinformation spreads the fastest, and expose them for what they really are.
So we’re not intimidated by their attacks — we’re emboldened. We’re going to continue doing the hard work necessary to expose their lies and bring the truth to the communities we serve, whether the propagandists at The Daily Caller like it or not.
