This morning, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau outlined more of Canada’s whole-of-government response to COVID-19, by establishing a COVID-19 Response Fund of more than $1 billion. This comprehensive approach includes measures already underway to respond to the outbreak, as well as new investments to limit the spread of the virus in Canada and prepare for its possible broader impacts on our people, our economy, and our small businesses.
Friend,
You’ll often hear from us about ways to get more involved in our Liberal movement, and to support our Liberal government’s progress for Canadians – and we’ll be keeping up that hard work!
Today though, first and foremost, we want to share a quick update on the government’s action to prevent and limit the potential spread of COVID-19, and to share a few important helpful resources for further information.
COVID-19 is a rapidly evolving global challenge and our government is working closely with local, provincial, territorial, and international partners to minimize its health, economic, and social impacts in Canada and around the world.
These investments include actions to support public health preparedness and critical health care system needs, provide support to workers in quarantine or self-isolation, ensure adequate supplies of personal protective equipment, and added support for Canada’s capacity in research and development (including for antivirals, vaccine development, and support for clinical trials).
The government is also acting swiftly to stimulate the economy and support Canadian businesses, including by strengthening investment in federal lending agencies such as the Business Development Bank of Canada and Export Development Canada.
And finally, detailed info on what Canadians, our families, and our communities can do to be prepared and support prevention can be found here: Canada.ca/Coronavirus
While the government has indicated that the risk to Canadians remains low, the Prime Minister’s message today was clear:
“To every worker and business, in every province and territory, we have your back and we will get through this together.”
We hope you’ll share these updates with your family and friends, and as always, we thank you for your continued support and involvement.
All our best,
Braeden Caley Senior Director, Communications Liberal Party of Canada
