My name is Negin, and I am a lesbian refugee from Afghanistan.  

After my country fell under Taliban control, I lived in danger of being stoned to death for my sexual orientation.

When the Taliban came to my house and attacked my family, I had no choice but to flee to Pakistan with my sister. I left everything I knew behind; my home, my friends, my career as a physician, and my family—to find safety.

Last year, with the help of Immigration Equality, I won refugee status in Canada! I am now safe, free, and building the life of my dreams.
