At YIMBY Action, we’re dedicated to passing housing legislation on the local, state, and federal levels that create more walkable, environmentally sustainable, and affordable neighborhoods. That’s why we are helping pass the federal People Over Parking Act.
The People Over Parking Act, introduced by California Congressman Robert Garcia, would eliminate outdated and expensive parking minimum requirements for new affordable homes. These parking minimums not only prevent the construction of more homes, but also make housing more expensive as these parking construction costs are passed to us residents.
It’s time we prioritize housing people over housing cars. And when we have fewer parking lots, we have more green space that reduce pollution. We deserve more lower cost housing that’s close to transit, education, and employment opportunities, and that benefit our health. This Giving Tuesday, we need your help to make it happen.
