This is the third day of a humanitarian pause in the conflict in Gaza, which gives us a very brief window to scale up the delivery of much needed aid, care, and relief to those living through the worst of this crisis.
Here’s why your support in this moment is so important:
- An estimated 1.7 million people, or nearly 80% of the population, are displaced and looking for shelter anywhere. Winter is rapidly approaching and it is getting colder in Gaza. A lack of food and water is now giving rise to malnutrition and dehydration. Waste is accumulating in the streets. Many have not changed their clothes for 45 days now.
- Of the 11 medical facilities in the south, only eight are currently functional. The bed capacity across Gaza has declined from 3,500 to 1,400, amid a surge in those seeking treatment. Only one of the currently functional hospitals in the south has the capacity to treat critical trauma cases or perform complex surgery.
- 1 million children are on the brink of a nutrition and public health catastrophe.
We are at the precipice of a public health crisis that could devastate a generation. That’s why it’s so critical we use this opportunity to deliver as much humanitarian aid as we possibly can to those who need it most.
To take full advantage of the humanitarian pause, we are starting our Giving Tuesday 2x-MATCH early to double the impact of your gifts.
Will you deliver twice the humanitarian aid, health care, and relief by making a gift today? Your emergency gift will deliver lifesaving care to women and girls impacted by crisis wherever help is needed most.
UNFPA is committed to standing with every woman and girl, no matter what. We condemn the violence in Israel and Gaza and echoes the UN Secretary-General’s call for a full and sustained humanitarian ceasefire, for the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages by Hamas, and for the ongoing delivery of sustained humanitarian relief at scale that meets the needs of the people of Gaza.
Thank you for your support.
