Will you join us in reimagining a brighter media future?

Dear FAIR Family,

We’re kicking off our year-end fund drive—the most crucial fundraiser FAIR has all year. You may know from letters in recent months that FAIR is working to fill a significant gap in fundraising that has emerged in recent years. A successful year-end drive is absolutely crucial this year!

It was so heartening to see how many readers, subscribers and CounterSpin listeners came through during our fall fundraiser. Once again, thank you! The community you're part of is a vibrant one.

Now, we’re counting on you to keep this momentum up! We’re trying to raise $100,000 between now and the New Year to get us started on the right foot for 2024.

We know you want to see your inboxes full of illuminating content rather than fundraising pitches. So we keep our fund drives to a maximum of four times per year, even during times like these. That means we need to aim high! We keep our budget bare-bones, but our donations have still fallen behind. With your help, we can get back on track.

FAIR’s website is 100% free to access, and all of our content is free from ads. That’s because our most central value is independence. We are loyal only to the truth—and our mission is to  ensure everyone has access to it.

The single most important thing you can do to ensure FAIR’s longevity is donate.

While grants from small, like-minded foundations help us along the way, an average of 60% of all of our revenue comes from individual donations from people like you. Whatever you’re able to spare makes a big impact.

Here’s some work your generosity has enabled us to publish this year:

  • The Character Assassination of San Francisco by Ari Paul
  • In Hours of Israel/Gaza Crisis Coverage, a Word You’ll Seldom Hear: ‘Ceasefire’ by Julie Hollar
  • NPR Devotes Almost Two Hours to Afghanistan Over Two Weeks—and 30 Seconds to US Starving Afghans by Bryce Greene
  • Right-Wing Media’s ‘Grooming’ Rhetoric Has Nothing to Do With Concern for Children by Olivia Riggio
  • CounterSpin: Kamau Franklin on Cop City Protests

For as long as corporate media cheer on war crimes, normalize bigotry and hatred, both-sides disinformation and muzzle underrepresented and dissenting voices, we intend to keep shedding light on the truth. We’ve been at this work for nearly four decades, and while we’ve seen marked improvements in many areas, our work is far from finished.

Meeting our fundraising goal is absolutely crucial, as FAIR’s year-end fundraising makes or breaks our finances for the upcoming year.

This work is as demanding as it is rewarding. It involves a lot of righteous anger—but a lot of hope.

In 2024 we plan to rigorously cover everything from elections, to the climate crisis, to the war in Gaza. We hope to embark on collaborative projects with like-minded organizations to ensure our small organization’s work has the biggest impact possible. But we need resources to do that.

Will you join us in reimagining a brighter media future?

Whether you can spare $5, $50, $500 or $5,000, your generosity gets us closer to securing our goal. And, regardless of your ability to donate, please continue sharing our work with your friends and community!

Thank you for supporting FAIR. And happy holidays!

With Gratitude,

Your Friends at FAIR
Olivia Riggio, Janine Jackson, Jim Naureckas and Julie Hollar
