G’day John!

If my greeting to you didn’t give it away, I’m a proud Australian. But I’m also a very happy U.S. Green Card holder, and I can tell you for a fact that the United States is a special place.

In Australia, our constitution doesn’t have the same guarantees of freedom of speech and expression that the U.S. does.

But even in the U.S., the First Amendment isn’t safe from being undermined. The public senses this too. A poll by the New York Times found only 34% of Americans believed all people in the U.S. enjoyed free speech completely.

That’s why we value Atlas Network’s partnership with the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression, or FIRE. They first recognized years ago that illiberalism was taking root on America’s college campuses, and this meant fewer rising leaders in the country truly cherished the First Amendment.

Their work benefited 5 million students across the country by identifying harmful speech codes. But FIRE didn’t stop there—they took action.

In 2014, FIRE began using litigation to achieve legal victories that protect free speech for students and faculty from all points of view. At last count, they've won 24 court cases, struck down 38 restrictive campus speech codes, and won $3 million in damages for victims of censorship.

Their legal work has been so effective, that they have now taken their defense of the First Amendment beyond college campuses, supporting the free speech and expression of Americans throughout the country.

Their impressive efforts earned their team Atlas Network’s North America Liberty Award this year, and your support empowers us to aid in their work, and to publicly celebrate their achievements for individual liberty.
