1) In Texas – The Empire Strikes Back

Many times we’ve alerted you – our readers – that 2023 has been the best year EVER for school choice. A dozen states passed education savings accounts, vouchers, scholarships, or other programs to allow kids to attend a public or private school of their parents’ choosing. The list includes Iowa, North Carolina, Tennessee, Oklahoma, West Virginia, Arkansas and others.

But for this year to go from good to great, we need Texas to act. The bill pushed by Governor Greg Abbott and Lt. Governor Dan Patrick and that sailed through the Senate, would offer school choice to two to three million Texas kids.

Sadly, it was defeated in the House just before Thanksgiving. The unions declared war on the bill even though it offered billions more for the public schools AND big teacher pay raises. They said ”never, ever” to school choice, and 21 Republicans and ALL the Democrats chose the unions over the kids. What is sickening is that 18 of the Rs who voted nay were endorsed by the union and most got campaign money from them as well. They’re cheap dates.

Democrats tend to represent inner-city areas with the worst schools in the state — so their constituents have by far the most to gain — yet they reaffirmed their loyalty to Darth Vader.

He’s Against School Choice...

But it ain’t over yet. Abbott says he’s not giving up on passing a slightly less ambitious bill by Christmas and we hope and pray he succeeds. Schools are supposed to be for the children – not the adults on the dark side.

2) "Woke Disney" Admits ESG Lowers Profits and Ruptures Customer Loyalty

Disney has become a movie poster board of how ESG can wreck a company’s stock. In the last five years of a generally bullish market, Disney shares have far underperformed, with its stock value down 16%. That’s a dismal performance given that the Dow Jones is up 38% over that period.

Disney’s Dismal Stock Returns

There are many reasons for the downfall, but certainly one of them has been Disney’s abandonment of its wildly profitable brand image of providing wholesome, family-friendly, and politics-free content and entertainment.

Now in its latest SEC 10-K filing, Disney admits that its ESG activism is hurting the company’s bottom line.

Under a section entitled “Risk Assessment,” Disney officials admit:

Environmental, social and governance [ESG] matters and any related reporting obligations may impact our businesses…

Generally, our revenues and profitability are adversely impacted when our entertainment offerings and products, as well as our methods to make our offerings and products available to consumers, do not achieve sufficient consumer acceptance. Further, consumers’ perceptions of our position on matters of public interest, including our efforts to achieve certain of our environmental and social goals, often differ widely and present risks to our reputation and brands.

By some estimates, Disney’s four latest films with woke political content may lose almost $1 billion.

Will they ever learn?

3) Biden’s Green Energy Slush Fund Gave $3 Billion to a Solar Company Accused of Scamming Seniors

Here’s yet another reason why Congress must IMMEDIATELY shut down Biden’s (and in turn Jigar Shah and John Podesta's) $400 billion slush fund that ladles out tax dollars to favored green energy companies and Democrat special interest groups as, if they were running a soup kitchen.

Now we have a new report from the Free Beacon that unmasks some of the unsavory characters whose pockets are being lined:

A solar company that was awarded a $3 billion Department of Energy loan has been accused of scamming dementia patients on their deathbeds into signing five-figure, multi-decade solar panel leases, according to interviews and state consumer complaint records obtained by the Washington Free Beacon.

Every time we expose these scamsters, the Biden administration scoffs and says this is just one bad apple among thousands of grants in the cart. It sure seems to us that the whole cart of apples is rotten.

4) Despite Media Blindness, the Potential for Voter Fraud Is All Too Real
Earlier this month, we at CTUP released a must-read report by our senior fellow John Fund, a leading expert on election fraud, on the risks of widespread voter fraud in 2024. The report highlights the stunning fact that almost half the states are now automatically registering people to vote whenever they have contact with welfare programs (and other state agencies) – without validating their citizenship, age, residency, or other qualifications to be eligible to vote. Gee. We wonder why! Just in time for next November.

Fund’s reporting finds that automatic voter registration (or AVR)  increases the errors on already flawed voter rolls, makes it easier to commit fraud, and results in the registration of large numbers of ineligible voters as well as duplicate registrations.

No sooner did we blare the siren alarm on this scheme, we now learn of more evidence of blatant election fraud. In Connecticut, a judge took the extraordinary step of overturning a September primary election for mayor in Bridgeport – Connecticut’s largest city. The judge cited massive evidence that supporters of the incumbent stuffed stacks of absentee ballots into drop boxes.

Last month, the city council president of Paterson, N.J. (population 158,000) was charged with personally collecting large numbers of mail-in ballots and replacing the ones that didn’t vote for him with ones that did.

Democrats seem entirely uninterested in fixing these REAL “threats to democracy.”

Small wonder that 60% of likely voters nationwide consider election cheating a problem, according to Rasmussen Reports. Yet the Washington Post insists on calling election fraud a “myth” and a “fantasy.”

5) Who Killed TV Comedy?
Lorne Michaels, the creator of “Saturday Night Live” once said: “If a culture doesn’t allow you to laugh at the leaders or at things that your eyes and ears tell you are actually happening, that’s not good.” Mel Brooks has said he could not make the legendary movie Blazing Saddles in today’s woke culture.

Now Jon Lovitz, who became a star during his five seasons on SNL, complains that late-night comedy hosts have “become very political” and “one-sided.”

“They’ve become, ‘Here’s my political agenda,'” he said. “They’re very open about it. Where's the comedians and the stand-up and the bits, you know, like (David) Letterman? It was comedy.”

Trump is fair game, of course.  But the shame is that with a President like Joe Biden, a VP like Kamala Harris, and Democratic leaders like Nancy Pelosi and AOC – the writers and hosts have a Pandora’s Box of funny material to spoof and satirize. The scripts practically write themselves.
