Why NhRP?
The Nonhuman Rights Project is the only organization dedicated solely to securing rights for nonhuman animals. For over 15 years, we’ve been working relentlessly to challenge a status quo that sees animals as “things” without any rights, and we’re making huge progress.
This year, we helped pass a bill recognizing elephant rights in Ojai, CA—the first legislation in the US that recognizes the right of a nonhuman animal. We started working with the New York City Council to pass the first elephant captivity ban in the country, which would free Happy and Patty from their imprisonment in the Bronx Zoo. And we’re working on cases to secure the freedom of ten elephant clients in Hawaii, California, and Colorado.
This progress is only possible with you on our side.
We couldn’t do any of this without the support of people who believe in our unique mission. People who aren’t afraid to challenge the status quo. People who believe in the fundamental rights of nonhuman animals. People like you.
