Today, legalization and decriminalization mean that people who might otherwise be in prison are instead spending time with their families, advancing their careers, and lifting up their communities.
Progress toward reducing stigma and legal barriers means that people with prior drug convictions are finding work and housing that might otherwise be out of reach.
And harm reduction strategies like overdose prevention centers have saved countless lives by acknowledging the full humanity of people who use drugs.
