Children being treated for severe malnutrition. Families huddled together, seeking refuge. Women giving birth in hot, overcrowded tents. Patients being treated for gunshot wounds and the scars of war.
October marked six months of ongoing conflict in Sudan. Since then, the country has been gripped by armed conflict, including devastating attacks on civilians and residential areas, forcing more than five million people to flee their homes while others remain trapped by the fighting.
Hospitals are stretched to capacity, medical supplies are low, and in many parts of the country, humanitarian aid has come to a halt.
Since April, Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has been on the ground in Sudan, providing medical care and donating supplies, filling critical gaps in healthcare. We're also working in neighboring countries like Chad, Central African Republic, and South Sudan, where millions of Sudanese refugees have fled over the last six months. Millions of people still need care. MSF staff are determined to reach them.
Across Sudan and its neighboring countries, MSF staff are struggling to accommodate the rapid, massive influx of internally displaced people and refugees needing food, medical care, and other necessities. Aisha, a health promoter in White Nile State, Sudan, recently shared, “Despite the volume of work, we are committed to providing humanitarian assistance in the camps, it’s not easy, and the needs are huge. But I'm grateful to have a strong team by my side, and I appreciate the dynamic of the team in which I feel supported everyday.”
MSF is working in 10 states in Sudan to address the growing need for emergency medical care. The generous support of people like you ensures that this kind of comprehensive, compassionate, and independent care is possible in over 70 countries worldwide.
Right now, our teams are responding to multiple emergencies, not all of them in the headlines. We need your support to continue to adapt and scale up our emergency response to address the most acute humanitarian and medical needs. This lifesaving work is only possible with your support.
--- All gifts given, up to $250,000, will be doubled through 11:59 p.m. EST on November 28—thanks to a generous matching grant from Worthington & Margaret Mayo-Smith. Every dollar you give will be matched with $1. Gifts received after the match has been met will not be matched but will be used where needed most.
