A new United Nations report finds that the oil, gas and coal production plans of the world’s top 20 largest energy-producing countries would increase greenhouse gas emissions rather than reducing them, blowing past the goals set by the Paris Agreement.

According to the report’s findings, current plans would increase coal production until 2030 and boost global oil and gas production though 2050 at least.
This contrasts sharply with the UN’s recommendation for a "near total phase-out" of coal production by 2040 and a 75% reduction in oil and gas production and use by 2050.
